Data Engineer III
Kansas City Life Insurance Company, a recognized leader in the insurance industry, is seeking an energetic, self-motivated individual to join our IT department. The ideal candidate would meet the following requirements:
    QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
  • B.S. or B.A. degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5 or more years of experience building processes that support data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management.
  • Advanced SQL knowledge and at least 5 years of experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases
  • At least 5 years of experience writing and optimizing queries.
  • A successful history of manipulating and processing large disconnected datasets.
  • Experience with multiple database technologies: SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, AWS (RedShift, ElasticSearch)
  • Experience processing large data sets of unstructured and structured data.
  • Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, R, Java, C++, Scala, etc.
  • Experience implementing and documenting data models and schema for new database structures and applications and implement measures to ensure data accuracy and accessibility.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of technology and value to business.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills.
  • Regular and reliable attendance and punctuality is an essential function of this position
    DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Transform data into a format that can be easily analyzed, ensuring system scalability, security, performance and reliability
  • Build high-performance ETL processes, algorithms, prototypes for data modeling, mining, and production.
  • Develop data set processes for data modeling, mining and production.
  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
  • Integrate new data management technologies and software engineering tools into existing structures
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, and re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability.
  • Maintain proper documentation and adhere to change management processes as well as ongoing performance of quality assurance on all business-impacting processes
